.Abstract
The Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, immersed in a public Higher Education institution such as the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, must play a leading role in the transformations required in the country, immersed since the beginning of this century in the "Society of Knowledge”, understanding it as a type of society in which the creation of knowledge is one of the main sources of wealth and social welfare of a nation and
in which one must travel promoting the discovery, creation and communication of knowledge about science, nature, society and the human being.
Therefore, if the generation of knowledge is the main source of wealth and well-being, the policies for the generation of new knowledge are one of the fundamental axes of the political organization of these societies.
This is why the introduction of research projects in the very process of university education is becoming more and more urgent.
