Inhibition Of Gardnerella Vaginalis By Plant Extracts Used In The Northeast And Southwest Of Guatemala Paila The Treatment Of Vaginitis

Vaginal infections are among the most frequently encountered problems in gynecology. Gardnerella vaginalis vaginosis is the most common, occurring in 40% of reported cases. The indicated treatment is conmetronidazc, which is a drug that can cause side effects. The objectives of the project were to find treatment alternatives, experimentally validate the antimicrobial action of eleven medicinal plants of popular use in Guatemala in the treatment and contribute to providing the population with effective and accessible pharmacological options. The plants were identified and ethanolic extracts were prepared, whose activity against two strains of G. vaginalis was determined by preparing an agar-extraction mixture in petri dishes, obtaining an extract concentration of 1 mg/mL. The boxes with agar-extract were inoculated with the strains in quadruplicate, obtaining a growth inhibition in seven of the 11 extracts, to which the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) presenting activity at a concentration of 0.5 mg /mL extracts of Solatium americanum, Bacchar trinervis, Stachytarpheta cayennensis, Sierctilia apétala, Salvia lavanduloides, Vernonia deppeana \ Tabebuia rosea These results demonstrate a moderate activity of the extracts, which somewhat validates their popular use.
