Dr. Rubén Dariel Velásquez Miranda, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, is pleased and delighted to present this new edition of the Scientific Journal, within the context of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of this Academic Unit. In this regard, it is important to note that, in its beginnings in 1918, it was named the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Pharmacy, with Dr. Rodolfo Robles serving as its first Dean, who is remembered with respect and recognition. In 1947, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Pharmacy complied with the provisions of the new Organic Law of the University and changed its name to the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy. Since 1971, it has been carrying out academic training processes, in accordance with the Minutes of the Board of Directors through the creation of four Faculty Schools: School of Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biological Chemistry and School of Nutrition, the latter affiliated with the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) in 1966.
