Abstract

The history of the Scientific Journal of the Institute of Chemical and Biological Research begins in 1983, with the approval of the project for its creation by the Research Commission of the Academic Unit, cataloging it as the official body for the dissemination of scientific activities and research in Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy. Its edition is the response to the needs raised and felt by the various sectors that make up the Faculty, who were carrying out activities of this nature, but which were little disseminated both inside and outside the University. Over time, the journal has presented important advances both in editing and in the formation of the editorial board, made up of professors who present postgraduate studies, this with the support of the authorities of the Faculty; a situation that has allowed us to acquire: 1. The assignment of the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) at the International Center of Paris, France; a useful tool in the identification and authorship of the intellectual thought of the authors. 2. In 2010, the journal was evaluated by the General Administrative Coordinator of the Regional Online Information System for Scientific Journals from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal (LATTNDEX) and was accepted for inclusion in its catalog. 3. In 2011, steps were taken to request the journal's inclusion in the regional database LILACS, based on a methodology of the same name and the methodology of the Virtual Health Library. This methodology regulates the search, selection, description, and indexing of documents and generates a database. LILACS is fed by contributions from the Latin American Regional Cooperating Centers for Health Sciences Information (BIREME), coordinated in Cuba by the National Library. The journal was approved for inclusion in this database.
