-Abstract
Within the work plan of the current authorities of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, the strengthening of the research activities carried out in our academic unit is contemplated. It has been a constant concern of the last faculty administrations to achieve a harmonious development of research, teaching and service, in order to graduate professionals with comprehensive training and a vocation of service to the population, and also to ensure that the Faculty can participate, in a concrete and effective way, in the study and solution of the problems facing the country. This is how the General Research Program of the Faculty was initially created, which was later replaced by the Institute of Chemical and Biological Research -IIQB-.
The IIQB was formally started in 1988, as the faculty unit "responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, execution, dissemination and evaluation of the Faculty's research activities." Since it was recently created, its development could still be considered as incipient, which is why it is planned to strengthen it in three stages: at the internal level (facultative), at the institutional level (University of San Carlos) and at the national and international level. The first two stages were initiated in 1991.
