Las políticas de Investigación de la Universidad se orientan a la integración del Sistema de Investigación de la Universidad y al estudio de los principales problemas de la sociedad con enfoque multidisciplinario. El Sistema de Investigación fue instituido en
1981 y reactivado en noviembre de 1990.
Los Programas Universitarios de Investigación constituyen parte del subsistema operativo del Sistema de Investigación y son el medio por el cual la Universidad aborda los principales problemas de la sociedad, propiciando la participación de los diferentes
centros, institutos o, departamentos de investigación en forma coordinada.
