According to the results of the study carried out since 1994 by the School of Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, with the collaboration of the Swiss Foundation for Technical Development Cooperation, Swisscontact, the contamination of The atmosphere, especially that caused by emissions from motor vehicles, is very high in some of the sampling sites located in Guatemala City. Pollution has been aggravated by the population explosion in the last two decades, caused by the macrocephalic model of economic growth that has characterized government policies that locate production and service centers in the metropolis, which has led to a accelerated growth in the number of automotive units, which is currently estimated to be more than 500,000 units. It has been shown that there is a close relationship between the deterioration of air quality, the increase in automotive flow and air emissions, especially in the urban center where vehicle circulation is denser and air mobility is reduced. due to the large number of buildings.Downloads
