Pharmacotherapeutic Guide, Hospital Nacional Nicolasa Cruz de JalapaAbstract
A Pharmacotherapeutic Guide is that document that contains pharmaceutical and pharmacological information about medications, to be a support to health professionals when prescribing or administering them. In the present work, through a survey of medical and nursing staff, the lack of access to updated and scientific written information on medications within the National Hospital of Jalapa "Nicolasa Cruz" was determined, likewise, the main sources were determined. of information and doubts presented by the staff at the time of prescribing and administering medications, in order to gather enough information to allow the development of a Pharmacotherapeutic Guide appropriate to the needs and demands of the National Hospital of Jalapa.
The doubts that most arise when prescribing or administering medications are drug interactions, side effects, precautions for use and dosage. To a lesser extent, there are doubts about the mechanism of action, route of administration and others such as storage conditions.
An important piece of information obtained through the survey was the lack of information regarding medications for use during pregnancy and lactation. Likewise, the inclusion of medicinal plants in the Pharmacotherapeutic Guide was ruled out, since the majority of those surveyed did not consider it necessary.
Based on the above, a Pharmacotherapeutic Guide was prepared for the National Hospital of Jalapa "Nicolasa Cruz", which contains information on medications, in the form of a monograph, as well as tables of drug interactions, categories of use during pregnancy and lactation, categories storage; as well as a special section for nursing with examples of calculations and conversions to facilitate the administration of medications to the patient.
It is important to emphasize that a Pharmacotherapeutic Guide is not a static document, and its content must be reviewed and updated periodically, so that it does not lose validity and continues to fulfill its function of providing technical and reliable information on medications. Therefore, the Pharmacotherapeutic Guide of the "Nicolasa Cruz" National Hospital in Jalapa will be modified and updated, with the contributions and suggestions of health professionals.
