There is a great deal of varied information related to the validation of the pharmacological activity of Guatemalan medicinal plants. The Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy has contributed with numerous research works on the traditional application of plant therapies. At an international level, the scientific bibliographical references on the subject are also very important, which were also the object of study and review, in order to obtain the so-called "Itzamná-CEGIMED List", which presents a compilation of condensed information on scientific validation studies on the use of medicinal plants at the level of the Mesoamerican region. In total, 1,11 monographs are described, including 80 illustrations, collected up to March 1992. In summary, important information is provided on the pharmacological activity of species of the Guatemalan flora, confirmed at an experimental level. The majority of scientific information is related to pharmacological activities of antispasmodic, diuretic, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, sedative, hypnotic and other types. The scientific validation studies developed are of a preclinical experimental nature and have been established according to in vitro and in vivo methodologies, with statistical treatments, to evaluate the significance of the results obtained.Downloads
