In the 1970s, Guatemala was concerned about preserving the country's natural resources; but it was not until 1989-1990 that the Guatemalan Government legalized Protected Areas (PA), through Decree Law 4-89, creating the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP) and the Guatemalan System of Protected Areas (SIGAP). Since then, there has been a great demand for information about PAs, information that covers a wide range of topics and is essential for implementing any project or activity related to the protection of natural resources. The main objective of this research project was to collect all existing information on PAs, analyze it, process it and publish it so that institutions such as CONAP, CONAMA, researchers and consultants can use it appropriately. This report describes the most complete collection of data from 50 protected areas (PA) in our country, which is organized in a biological database managed by the Conservation Data Center (CDC) of the Center for Conservation Studies (CECON). Most of the data was obtained directly from the institutions that manage the different PAs, from publications by researchers carried out in these areas and from field observations carried out by the staff of the Conservation Data Center. The information is presented in a flexible and easy-to-understand format, allowing the dissemination of data and its updating by the different institutions and researchers who work with PAs and consists of the following: 1. GENERAL DATA 2. LOCATION 3. DESCRIPTION 4. SOCIOECONOMIC ASPECTS 5. MANAGEMENT ASPECTS 6. BIOLOGICAL ELEMENTSDownloads
