In Guatemala, research carried out has determined that in the first year of life the child presents problems of nutritional deficiencies related to inadequate breastfeeding and food supplementation practices. The objective of this research was to develop dietary guides for children in the first year of life, in the northeast of the municipality of Chiquimula, taking into account the aforementioned problems and the characterization of the target group. This characterization included the determination of the nutritional status, the epidemiological profile, the availability and consumption of food and the feeding practices that mothers carry out with their children in the first year of life. With this information, food-nutritional problems were prioritized, determining objectives, the dietary pattern and the recommendations to be provided. Subsequently, the mothers were given the recommendations developed to implement them for a week, after which they returned to the communities so that they could indicate the feasibility of carrying them out. The above was the basis for the development of the dietary guidelines for this age group, which included the recommended diet, messages related to breastfeeding, food supplementation and the technical foundations for facilitators who are interested in supporting the implementation of the guidelines. themselves.Downloads
