With the purpose of providing educational information for geriatric patients on therapeutic compliance and the correct and rational use of medications, this study was conducted for the population that attends the Medical Care Center for Pensioners (CAMIP). There it was determined that this population more frequently consumes medications to treat chronic diseases such as hypertension, arthritis and diabetes, so the study is aimed at the diabetic, hypertensive and arthritic patient club. This is intended to guarantee the effectiveness of the treatment and reduce future complications due to improper use of the same. The elderly population requires special attention during the handling of medications and during the treatment of the disease, since due to ignorance and/or due to intrinsic factors of age they carry out the incorrect treatment, and in many cases incomplete, or resort to self medication. To achieve the results, it was necessary to know the opinion of doctors, nurses and pharmacists of the institution, through semi-structured interviews, thanks to which the need for this population to know aspects related to the use, storage, dose, time duration of treatment, precautions, side effects and trade names of drugs. Other aspects are related to the disease and the influence of diet and exercise in its treatment. Based on these results, the educational program consisting of a talk and a brochure was developed, covering each of the aspects suggested by professionals in the health area. Finally, the educational program was validated with the users and by experts. It currently functions as a means of support for each of the clubs organized by the institution's Department of Social Work.Downloads
