The test of five analytical techniques, adopted in its methodology, with the aim of implementing a rapid method in the routine obtaining of iodine, in samples of common solar salt, for human consumption, is described. In the development of the investigation, five methods (four colorimetric and one volumetric) were experimented, comparing them with the results of the Official Method, the latter very cumbersome in addition to using expensive and unstable reagents. Of the five methodologies tested, three showed a positive response for the detection and quantification of iodate, one presented an acceptable response only for the detection of iodate, and one presented a negative response. The 10 samples of solar salt that were used for the use of the methods were obtained at random within the perimeter that corresponds to the capital city of Guatemala. The research allowed the development of three methodologies that can be used as alternatives to the Official Method and the fact stands out, according to the statistical study, that they can be used as a basis for future research in the implementation of some type of set of reagents for in situ analysis. ; that tends to reinforce the monitoring and inspection program for iodine in solar (common) and refined salt. It is important to point out that the results of iodine in the salt samples, obtained by the Official Method, show that 70% do not comply with the official standard of iodine fortification, which reveals the need to establish rapid and reliable methods in their use. determination.
