Impact of multimedia on teaching of Integral Calculus: the case of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy Faculty at San Carlos University. The use of multimedia technology has spread along the universities in recent times, but it has not been evaluated specifically on having a positive impact in teaching of calculus. An experiment was conducted in order to measure any impact of the using of multimedia technology in daily classes over the final results in the Integral Calculus course at Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy Faculty at University San Carlos. Treatments were three: one group receving classes with multimedia technology, and two groups receiving classess with traditional whiteboard and marker method.
The response variable wr as the final numeric note obtained by students of three groups. Final data acquired was statistically analized, an ANOVA was applied, and the proportions of approval-non approval were compared. Final results of the experiment shows that the group who received classes using multimedia technology achieved a lower average than the groups who received classes with traditional method groups. Also, proportion of approval was lower in the "multimedia'’ group compared with “traditional” groups. Experimental evidence leads to conclude that, multimedia technology has no positive impact in teaching of integral calculus. However further research is needed in order to get better understanding of the phenomena.
