This study covers the analysis of the results of the dosages carried out during 1987 and 1988 of phenobarbital and diphenylhydantoin through the Toxicological Information and Assistance Center -CIAT-, of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, finding that of the 508 lysis performed only 18.2% of the patients for phenobarbital and 46% for diphenylhydantoin, presented concentrations corresponding to the normal range.
With these data it was confirmed that the controls of the blood levels are necessary to achieve an adequate dose for each patient and with this individualization achieve the desired therapeutic benefits.
