Deterioro de la calidad del aire en la ciudad de Guatemala, un aspecto ambiental que umita el desarrollo sostenible

The Laboratory of Air Monitoring of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, has made from year 1994 the monitoring of the polluting agents: total particles in suspension - PTS and - PM10 -, Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide and acid rain, in different points located in Guatemala City. The results confirm that the air quality is deteriorated and is caused by all the analized air pollutants. The significant prevalence of respiratory diseases can be relationated with the air quality, probably is the main cause of visit to the system of public health of the country, does that a considerable one amount of resources public is destined to the treatment of ill people, debilitating their use in projects and policies of sustainable development of benefit at local and regional level.
