The Hesperiidae Butterflies (Insecta: Lepidoptera) of Bethel, La Libertad, Peten: Taxonomy, Diversity, Natural History and Biogeography

This document presents the results obtained in the study on the hesperiids of the Bethel cooperative, in the lower part of the Sierra del Lacandón, La Libertad, Fetén, in the Yucatán Peninsula. An annotated list of the 94 species identified for Bethel was prepared, including phonological and habitat information. Phenological data suggest that hesperiids are seasonal, presenting the highest activity peak from August to November. The composition of hesperiids present in Bethel was also compared with those of other localities of the Yucatan Peninsula, among them: Tikal, Quintana Roo and Chajul, Chiapas, the last two located in Mexico. According to the Sorensen and Jacquard community indices, the greatest similarity is found between Tikal and Bethel, being (0.5 and 0.33), respectively.
