.Abstract
Those who promote the legalization of drugs of abuse should take into account other opinions. There is a lot of misinformation regarding this topic, so I allow myself to comment on some related aspects.
The drugs that appear in the lists of the Conventions on Narcotic Drugs (1961.) and the Convention on Psychotropic Substances (1971) of the United Nations, both ratified by Guatemala, are mostly legal, but with medical prescription. We are talking about the so-called narcotic drugs such as opium and derivatives, morphine, pethidine, meperidine, codeine, cocaine, fentanyl, etc., and psychotropic substances such as benzodiazepines (Valium®, Lexotan®, Tañi®, Ativan®, etc.) , as well as phenobarbital, pentobarbital, amphetamines, (substances for appetite control) and others. The Sanitary establishments in Guatemala can sell them but under strict medical control, which includes the medical prescription to be able to be dispatched. cocaine
as a drug it is a good local anesthetic, a use that was given to it when it was discovered; but due to its powerful addictive properties it is no longer used as such, and there are better local anesthetics that are not adjectives.
